Description: Project Songbird is a first-person cinematic horror game in which you play as Dakota, a singer suffering from writer’s block and personal tragedy. To find inspiration, she goes to a secluded cabin in the Appalachian Mountains, but soon realizes that the peace here is deceptive. Quiet paths, the sound of a stream, the creaking of branches – all this merges into a depressing atmosphere, where reality begins to distort. The game gradually immerses you into the heroine’s past, revealing fragments of pain, loneliness and struggle for herself through environmental exploration, sound recordings and dark visions.
Developer Connor Rush literally bursts into the game – from the screen he asks how you like the process, suggests changing settings, or explains the choice of style. It creates a strange, almost intimate feeling: as if you are not just a player, but a guest in someone’s mind. Visually, the project combines modern graphics with a film grain effect and wide format reminiscent of 2000s films. The sound design is one of the strong points: every breath, step, and guitar chord increases the tension and makes the world come alive.
The gameplay is divided into two parts: slow, atmospheric exploration in the spirit of Firewatch and classic horror with mannequins, mazes and pursuits. The combat and stealth are awkward in places, and the puzzles are confusing, but the story itself, its honesty and personal underpinnings leave a mark. This is not just a scary game. This is an invitation inside.
