Description: Jackal is a crazy, psychedelic raid through 1970s Las Vegas where you’re a drugged-out mercenary and your partner is the silent Anubis, who whispers spells through his teeth. You don’t sneak around in the shadows. You break into casinos, hotels and brothels, destroying everything in your path. There’s no cover, just fury as you snatch shotguns out of thin air, hurl tables at your enemies, smash mobsters to pieces, and finish everyone off with a finisher like you’re putting an end to a bloody poem.
Fights are like chaos brought to the ideal. Every move is worth its weight in gold: you stun with a blow from a baseball bat, pick up a gun on the fly, shoot three, and then throw the weapon at the last one to finish him off with your bare hands. The visual cues are clear – red outlines for enemies with weapons, yellow for those with little to no ammo, so even in the melee you always feel in control. And then you have magic: slowing down time, blinding, speeding up, but one spell per mission, and choosing when to use it becomes part of the puzzle.
The levels are short, but each can be replayed with a new generation of rooms, enemies and modifiers. Add in drug abilities, random weapons and an atmosphere filled with jazz, revenge and acid visions, and you get a game that you can’t tear yourself away from. This isn’t just a Hotline Miami tribute. This is its own hell, where every shot costs something.
