Description: Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut is a crime saga set in the Japanese economic boom of 1988, where you alternate between the roles of two legends: Kazuki Kiriya and Mount Majima. One is trying to justify himself in a murder he did not commit, the other is trying to protect a blind girl instead of killing her on orders. Their stories, full of betrayal, honor and unexpected humanity, unfold against the backdrop of the neon streets of Kamurocho and Sotenbori, where around every corner there is a fight, a mini-game or the most absurd side.
The combat system is one of the best in the series: each hero has three unique styles, from boxing combos to breakdancing, plus weapons and spectacular “Hit attacks” that break out at the most tense moments. All this is pumped up for money – and in 1988, oddly enough, there is plenty of it: enemies pay generously, and income from real estate and cabaret clubs turns you into a real businessman in a suit with torn sleeves.
Side quests – from filming a Michael Jackson parody to disco dance battles – are not just entertainment: they reveal the characters’ personalities and give a rare sense of lightness in the midst of a gloomy narrative. And thanks to the abundance of mini-games – from bowling to UFO catchers – you can easily spend dozens of hours forgetting about the main plot.
Director’s Cut adds English voice acting, several new scenes and a Red Light Raid multiplayer mode – but the main trump card remains the same: a great story, lively locations and that same balance between the brutality of the streets and the kindness in the heart of the yakuza.
