Description: Empyreal immerses you in the mysterious world of an ancient zikurt-a cyclopean structure on a distant planet, where technologies of forgotten civilization are intertwined with something much more ancient and frightening. You are a mercenary, hired by a crashed by an expedition, and your task is to break through the levels of this monolith, fighting with autonomous Auto-Fronts and revealing the secrets of the structure. What distinguishes the game from typical “SOLSLAKS” is its unique “cartogram” system – blue prints that determine the parameters of each entry into the dungeon: from the bioma and the level of complexity to the type of boss and possible production.
The gameplay is built on three types of weapons: a fast shaft-glef, a heavy mace with a paired battle shield and a gun with an original recharge system resembling Monster Hunter mechanics. Each requires development: if Glef allows you to dodge and apply a series of blows, then the shield is relied on on timely parries, and the gun on a mini-game during reloading. Enemies attack a clear timer (with a filled strip above his head), which adds tactical depths, but in the crowd the battle can become chaotic. Visually, the locations are impressive – especially the “artificial sky” of the desert bioma – although the textures of characters and enemies look modest.
Progress in Empyreal is a constant balance between risk and award. The modification of equipment (redistribution of stats, replacement of effects) allows you to adapt to different threats, and rare relics give powerful passive abilities. However, the game does not forgive inattention: even with pumped equipment, the bosses remain a test. The final opens the door for NG+ with enemies of the 60th level, but the main reward here is not the plot, but the catharsis from the victory over the seemingly invincible opponent.
