Description: Arctic Awakening is an adventure game where you find yourself in the ice desert of Alaska after the disaster. You are Kai, a pilot whose plane torn a storm in the middle of a routine. Your partner Donovan jumped out with parachute, but now he is somewhere there, wounded and unable to return. It is necessary to survive alone – almost. Near your companion: Alfi, therapeutic drone appointed to you by the court. He says too much, jokes out of place, but it is his voice that prevents the silence from going crazy. With each step-strange anomalies, abandoned structures, traces of someone’s presence. The world seems to breathe behind.
To play is to go. Explore fragments, collect food and water, monitor the state of Kai: hunger and thirst slow down it, fogging their eyes. There are several puzzles-codes, a key card, switching of the chipsters-but they are not here for a call, but to slow down the pace, inhale the voltage. More important – the choice of words. In dialogues with Alfi you can be silent, agree, get angry or speak humanly. It depends on how their strange coexistence will develop. Sometimes mounds come across on the way – stone pyramids. Kai can sit down, pause, go through mini-medical. It helps him – and a little to you.
The world around is semi -empty, stylized, with echoes Firewatch and The Thing. There are no animals, there are almost no traces of life, but someone was clearly. Drones in the sky, strange signals, technologies that should not be here. History is trying to tie the personal pain of Kai – his past, guilt, injuries – with the mystery of the Arctic. It turns out not always convincing, but the atmosphere holds. Silence, the creak of snow under the feet, voices in the headphones – all this creates a feeling of isolation, anxiety, fragility.
