Description: The Last Case of John Morley is an atmospheric 1940s noir detective adventure where you return to work after major brain surgery and personal tragedy. Your last chance for salvation is the investigation of the murder of Lady Margaret Fordside’s daughter twenty years ago. A case long buried by the police comes to life in a dusty office littered with files, to the sound of rain and disturbing jazz from an old radio.
The game immerses you in the gloomy interiors of an estate, an abandoned sanatorium and other locations, saturated with secrets and forgotten cruelty. Each room is like a page from an old book: letters, tarot cards, displaced statues, and even the trembling voice of an aristocrat asking for the truth are important here. Morley doesn’t just examine – he thinks out loud, and his internal monologues turn you into an accomplice in the investigation, rather than just an observer.
The gameplay is based on attentiveness: you search for evidence, connect evidence, select codes and open locked doors. There are no clues – only your eyes, memory and logic. Sometimes you will have to go around the same corridors until you notice that very subtle hint. And although the graphics are modest and the localization is lame in places, the atmosphere is so dense that you will feel someone else’s presence even in an empty room.
This is not an action game or a puzzle for the sake of a puzzle – it is a slow, almost literary dive into a story where every detail matters, and the truth turns out to be much darker than it seems at first. Take a notepad, listen to the silence – and don’t believe the first impression.
