Description: Gloomy Eyes is a fabulous experiment at the junction of the cartoon and an interactive performance, where you become a silent witness to a touching love story. The action takes place in alternative reality, where the sun, tired of human stupidity, disappeared forever behind the horizon, and darkness awakened the dead. The main character is the teenage zombie grim, who falls in love with a living girl Nena, risking to cause her uncle’s anger-a gloomy hunter for undead.
The visual style resembles the puppet animation of Tim Burton: the characters seem to be blind from fabric and wax, and the world is a series of miniature dioramas that come to life around you. A feature of the format is in the “theater” immersion. You will have to literally twist your head, following the action: here are lovers ride the carousels, circling a couple of centimeters from your face, but the ominous uncle pronounces the preaching, towering on the right. The main assistant in navigation is the light highlighting key scenes in the pitch darkness of this world.
The story is voiced by Colin Farrell, whose voice gives the narrative a melancholy charm. Although interactivity is limited (you are only an observer), the game with the prospect creates an unusual effect of presence – for example, when the American slides pass through your virtual body. This is not so much a game as a meditative experience about how the love of dissenters can return the light even to the most gloomy world.
