Description: DREAD Flats is a horror experiment in the spirit of cinematographic fermentors like Visage, only with Chinese specificity. Here everything breathes nineties: shabby wallpaper in a flower, creaky linoleum floors and video cameras with terrible static noise. But deceptive nostalgia is quickly replaced by icy horror when you understand: not only cameras are watching you. The view through the monitors becomes the only salvation from what crawls behind him – and even this is unreliable.
The main feature of the game is nerves. Instead of cheap screamers, an insidious observation mechanics work here: while you are staring at the screen, something moves in a dark corridor, the door open a couple of centimeters … run? Hide in a closet where it smells of naphthalin and old fears? Or turn on the fool and pretend that I did not notice how the shadows are thickened? The choice is yours, but the game quickly makes it clear that you should not relax. Especially after you first hear the same whisper out of nowhere.
Locations here are not just scenery. The damned house behaves as a living: any room can become a trap, and the found note with a hint of the truth about the disappeared tenants is the beginning of a nightmare. The finale is like a waking up from a nap, after which I want to immediately restart the game to make out the tips that I missed for the first time. Welcome to a trap from which you can’t escape. Unless to the credits.
