Description: Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream is an isometric stealth of diorama, where you are not so much a free sandbox in the spirit of Desperados, but a series of carefully collected puzzles. Instead of the freedom of improvisation, they offer to unravel the idea of developers – each of the eight chapters like a casket with a secret: you need to remember patrols, calculate the time and activate the script events in strict order. But if you accept these rules, you get a strange pleasure – as from victory in a chess task, where all the moves are calculated in advance. A special charm-visual: dilapidated pseudo-Kokolm with its roofs, flooded with golden light, and policemen in oil cloaks look so lively that you want to slow down and just look at the details.
The main character Hannah – the young orphan, who recovered after the mysterious “heart poles” – at first seems helpless: she has only darts with a lulling poison and knowledge of urban nooks. But as the plot develops, two allies join it: Alva, who can extinguish the lanterns of the sling, and the strongman Sebastian, who is blowing the enemies in the shade. Their combinations create the moments of a brilliant stealth theater-for example, when it is necessary to synchronize the divert of the guard with creeping through ventilation. Alas, the trio unites only to the final chapters, and before that the game is felt as a long Tutorial. But the cat-scenes here are a separate art: the facial expressions of the characters even conveys the trembling of the lower lip in a frightened child.
The story of the salvation of the brother and the conspiracy of the elites does not shine with originality, but it compensates for this by the atmosphere of the “dirty” world – where the neighbors cover the Hannah, and the cops hate the whole quarter. Stealth mechanics work clearly: shadows hide, sounds attract attention, and failure means instant Game Over. But the real highlight is “non -game” moments: bothers of lovers, drunken monologues of the guards, guys arguing about football. These chamber scenes, examined from shelter, make Eriksholm something more than just puzzling. And if you close your eyes to linearity, you will get one of the most stylish steves of the year.
