Description: 1348 Ex Voto is an action-adventure game where you play as Aeta, a female knight who embarks on a dangerous journey through plague-ridden medieval Italy. Your vow is simple: find Bianca, a childhood friend and perhaps something more, kidnapped by bandits during a raid. For her sake, you will walk through deserted villages, dark forests and abandoned chapels, fighting looters and robbers while the land dies around you. Visually, the game is captivating: picturesque landscapes, a gloomy atmosphere of an epidemic, a dense color scheme that looks like it came out of ancient paintings.
The combat system is built on precise strikes, parries and distance control, but quickly comes down to rote memorization of patterns. The enemies are monotonous, and the aiming system often works against the player, abruptly switching focus and disrupting the rhythm. There is depth: you can change sword parts, upgrade skills and use “perfect attacks” for combos, but almost all of this remains on the surface. The puzzles are minimal – move a box, cut a rope – and do not affect the course of the story.
The story promises strong emotional connection and themes of privilege, survival and love, but delivers them in fragments. This is not so much an adventure as a meditation on the edge of life and death, where the path itself is more important than the goal.
